Today students began by playing BoomBag with this week’s vocabulary flashcards. Next we watched one of my favorite TED Ed clips. Afterwards, students used infographs to begin working on their Writing Wednesday piece. Students are expected to submit their assignment by the end of class tomorrow. Get ready for lots of links and information!

Tomorrow we will be working on stations to solidify our knowledge and understanding of pathogens, disease, epidemics and pandemics.

Today we played a more intense version of Boom Bag to get as many concepts covered as possible before our CFA #4 tomorrow. Students individually retrieved their 20 vocabulary cards, science notebooks and also received 1 NC COACH science book per group. In addition to their flashcards, a set of approximately 36 open-ended question cards were also thrown into the mix! If students did not know the answer, they had 30 seconds to check their science notebooks or COACH books to find the answer. We kept score, too, so the winners could be rewarded with a small prize. Tomorrow we will take CFA #4 and then Wednesday – Friday we will work on our next unit 8.L.5.2 – Healthy Living.

Began our 2nd layered curriculum activity!
As you can tell, these next 3 days will be filled with students working on their layered curriculum. I love doing these because it totally provides options and choices for the students to select their OWN activities to complete. By the end of today’s class (day 1), students were to have 35 points completed. Shoutout to the students in my 4th block today! They were AMAZING! They were focused and working so diligently, providing responses that will earn them a 4 on the EOG. W.O.W!
We used textbooks, coach books, flashcards, classroom posters, and more to help us provide the best possible answers.

Hey hey everyone,
Today is a double post – some info from yesterday as well as what we’re doing today! So, let’s get started!
Yesterday read a CommonCore reading about outbreaks, pandemics and epidemics and answered corresponding comprehension questions. These questions required a little bit more than normal proved rather challenging for some of my students. Afterwards, students worked on 8.L.1.2 Performance Task in which they were to analyze data about pandemics throughout the last century and create a graph to represent how the fatalities of pandemics has decreased over the time.
Today, 1st block was occupied with MAP Testing in reading, so they’ll have to complete the stations review prior to taking our Pathogens & Disease unit test. The rest of my classes were able to complete 4 stations as a review for our unit test, tomorrow!

Today in class we did a fun demo to model epidemic and pandemic as well as look at how vaccines can help prevent the spread of viruses.
First, we watched 2 short clips of movie trailers that depicted outbreaks and pandemics and afterwards began constructing our foldable.
Although not everyone made it to their text Tuesday assignment, we will continue with it tomorrow as well as answer the comprehension questions.

I hope you’ve all had a successful start to the week! Today we started week 2 of our unit on pathogens. In class we took notes that answered the following questions:
1) How do diseases spread?
2) What microbes cause disease?
3) What medicine should you take?
This was a good refresher from our previous week. Afterwards, we worked on our vocabulary flashcards and played BoomBag!

Today we took on the role of doctors as we analyzed a multitude of symptoms related to diseases and properly diagnosed each disease being sure to identify the type of pathogen that caused it. This is one of my favorite activities to do each year. Students are able to learn about new diseases and also identify ways to treat and prevent them as well!
I do not have an electronic copy of these activities, as they were hard copies shared by another school, however I am working to scan and have them ready to post by tomorrow. Be on the look out!
